With email and scanners, faxing, most assuredly, is a thing of the past, so why is eFax consistently on our list of top free internet services year after year?  The reason is that even though faxing is quickly becoming antiquated, it is still a sign of a "respectable company" to have a fax number on a card as an option, but it is not important to spend ANY money on a fax service.

These days, eFax hides their FREE service enrollment form on their website, although you can still find it by searching on "free efax" on the web.  You won't get a local number unless you pay for eFax service, but as infrequently as you should expect to use it, a long distance number probably won't make much of a difference.  The only reasons we can imagine paying for the service is if you are a local restaurant and want a local number to receive fax orders from businesses, or if you are sending a lot of outgoing faxes directly from computer documents.
