These days, eFax hides their FREE service enrollment form on their website, although you can still find it by searching on "free efax" on the web. You won't get a local number unless you pay for eFax service, but as infrequently as you should expect to use it, a long distance number probably won't make much of a difference. The only reasons we can imagine paying for the service is if you are a local restaurant and want a local number to receive fax orders from businesses, or if you are sending a lot of outgoing faxes directly from computer documents.
