The size of a credit card, Verizon's MiFi 2200 is a game changing device, creating a WiFi internet hotspot for up to five devices of ANY kind wherever you travel, at a hotel or restaurant, at a seminar or meeting, or even in your car or on a train while moving.
Although the device comes "activated" by Verizon, just like any WiFi router, you will first need to connect it to a computer (in this case via a USB cable) to do the final setup on the device. After it is setup, however, you unplug the cable and the device will be visible to any WiFi compatible computer, phone, mp3 player, camera, video device, etc.
In a hotel environment, we were able to share internet access with several other neighboring guests, and by saving the $15 per room Wireless fee, we paid for the subscription in one day. On the go, the device appears to run for about four hours on a charge, but in an hotel environment, you can plug it in for continuous operation.
Although any of Verizon's data plans can be used with this device, for the occassional traveler, our favorite plan is the 24 hour access for $15, similar to what a hotel charges, but also good for attending seminars, going to a restaurant, or any social situation.
I have been using the Verizon MiFi device for a couple of months and today, even more than my American Express card, I never leave home without it. This card turns my iTouch device into an anywhere browser, and every lunch meeting becomes an effective working lunch.
